It includes the vine since the Roman Empire which will plant and will source inland waterway. In the Middle Ages the vine continues to grow under the leadership of the clergy, the various invasions make it very difficult culture and destroy trade. Follows a more prosperous period with the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine with Henry II of England. The South West wines are exported by Bordeaux. The eighteenth to the nineteenth century the region receives low quality produce varieties, affecting the quality of production. In 1860, the damage caused by phylloxera will force many growers to give up. The 1956 freeze brings a serious blow to rest, only a portion will resume planting with quality grape varieties.
